WOOD STREET HOUSE
Sunday 11th November: 10am - 2pm
31 Wood Street, Fremantle 6160
Home to Dimitri (director of EHDO Architecture) and his family, this house overlooks the Nightingale Fremantle construction site.
Wood Street House returned a derelict industrial factory in Fremantle into a contemporary dual house for multi-generational living. On one side is a young growing family, the other a home for the grandmother.
The larger residence is focused around a generous north facing courtyard which has all the main living areas connected to it. This provides passive solar energy and enables the family to socialize together with friends in a relaxed way including music parties or simply for the kids to run in and around.
Much of the existing factory envelope was retained. The aesthetic and finishes of the new development are simple and non-luxurious – respectful of the buildings earlier life.
Wood Street House demonstrates the passive solar design principles, and approach to materials applied to its future multi-residential neighbour.
