Optus Stadium and the surrounding Stadium Park’s innovative design a collaboration between HASSELL, Cox and HKS – feels distinctly local, with architecture and landscaping that reflect the State’s proud sporting, cultural and Aboriginal heritage.
The 41-hectare precinct surrounding Optus Stadium was designed by HASSELL as a captivating year-round destination – somewhere the community and visitors can immerse themselves in nature, connect with indigenous culture and enjoy ‘365 days of play’. One of the site’s major attractions is the Parkland, a revitalised bushland where kids can roam free, engage with the environment and learn how local Aboriginal people traditionally related to the land.
Nature playgrounds, lawns and art scattered throughout the Park encourage active and creative play like climbing, balancing, tunnelling and building. These spaces are designed to foster a deep sense of connection and custodianship by allowing kids to shape the landscape – moving rocks and branches or forming new paths and structures.
Additionally, the BHP Boardwalk spans 300 metres, winding through the Chevron Parkland, connecting the new Matagarup Bridge with the Northern Oval.
