The brief for this house was to demolish the existing 1970’s brick and tile dwelling and create a contemporary family home that would be timeless, refined and respond to the site.
The house is split into two pavilions that step down the sloping site. Breaking the house in this way reduced its visual bulk and allowed the creation of a central courtyard that opens off the kitchen and living spaces, allowing inside and outside spaces to flow into one another comfortably.
Internally the double height spaces vary the volumes and high level window provide cross ventilation. Large wall areas provide space for art, which was a key requirement from the client. Natural materials were to be used as they provide warmth and texture. Large windows frame views of the courtyard spaces and provide a connection to the surrounding landscape.
