ANZAC Cottage was built in one day on February 12, 1916 by the community of Mount Hawthorn as a home for a returned wounded soldier and his family and as a memorial to those who lost their life in the tragic Gallipoli landing. The building was initiated by the Mount Hawthorn Progress Association and was supported eagerly by the community, with donations ensuring the cottage would be a suitable and enduring memorial for the Gallipoli veterans. As part of Open House Perth the Friends of ANZAC Cottage invite you to visit this iconic monument to the efforts of our ANZACs and the community of Mount Hawthorn.
Friends of ANZAC Cottage will have its “Field of Remembrance” on display where community members commemorate their loved ones. This year, in honour of the Centenary of the Armistice, there will be a temporary exhibition entitled “The Memorial Men” which tells a fascinating story of dedication, commitment and memory
